It took 10 years to build the fort
Significantly, it took 10 years to build the Red Fort, which means the construction of this fort was completed in a decade. Ustad Hamid and Ustad Ahmed, the leading architects of Shah Jahan’s time, started its construction in 1638, which was completed in the year 1648. The reason for taking so much time is also justified, because at that time there were no machines like today and the goods were also limited. The Red Fort was once the White Fort
Everyone knows that the Red Fort of Delhi is of red colour. But you may be surprised to know that the Red Fort was once white. The Red Fort was built by the Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan. It is mentioned in many places in history that the color of the Red Fort was once white. According to the Archaeological Survey of India, some parts of this historic building were made of limestone. When the white stones in it started getting spoiled when coming out of their place, the British had painted it red.
This was the real name of this fort
Red Fort was not named Red Fort from the beginning. This fort was originally known as ‘Qila-e-Mubarak’. It is mentioned in many places in history that this fort was built by Shah Jahan when he shifted his capital from Agra to Delhi. At that time the name of this fort was Qila-e-Mubarak, later its name was changed to Red Fort. It is also said that it was constructed with red colored stones and bricks, hence the British named it Red Fort. In this way the local people used to call it by the name of Red Fort.
